The specialized scientific seminar on "Food Control Mechanisms and Consumer Safety," held under the slogan "Safe Food.. Sustainable Health.. Informed Consumer," concluded on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the auditorium of the College of Medical Technology in Nalut.
The closing of the event was attended by high-level officials, led by the university president, Dr. Muhammad Masoud Qnan, with wide participation from deans of colleges, directors of departments and offices, the general secretary of employees, along with a group of faculty members, experts, academics, and interested parties.
The seminar aimed through its scientific sessions to establish the concept of food safety, review monitoring mechanisms both locally and internationally, and discuss common food hazards and ways to mitigate them. The scientific topics focused on:
1. Safety of traditional foods and medicinal herbs.
2. Foodborne pathogenic bacteria.
3. The role of laboratories in detecting colorants and commercial fraud.
4. Legislation and regulations governing food safety and consumer protection.
The success of the seminar is embodied in the effective partnership between several entities, including: (the Libyan Association for Food and Nutrition, Al-Asmariya University, Misrata University, Tripoli University, Gharian University, the Libyan Academy, and the Monitoring Organization for Consumer Protection).
In appreciation of their valuable scientific efforts and their contributions to enriching the seminar's topics, the President of the University and the organizing committee kindly distributed excellence shields and certificates of appreciation to the esteemed speakers: (Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak Hukm, Mr. Miftah Al-Aati, Mr. Abdul Salam Nawara, Mr. Wael Al-Saghir, Prof. Dr. Milad Shalouf, Mr. Saleh Shaqan, Dr. Omar Al-Murhaq, Dr. Abdul Razak Al-Naimi, Dr. Nagy Aburas, Prof. Dr. Khalid Al-Bidi, Dr. Ibrahim Amhammed, and Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Merghani).
In a moment awaited by everyone, the Center for Scientific Research, Consulting, and Training revealed the results of the competition that 112 samples underwent, where the winners of the title of the best extra virgin olive oil for the 2025-2026 season were announced according to international chemical and sensory standards.
