Director of the Language Center at Nalut University

The center was established in 2020 as an educational and training unit specialized in the field of teaching living languages, based on the decision of the Secretary of the General People's Committee for Higher Education (formerly) No. 23 of 2008 regarding the establishment of language centers at Libyan universities. After the establishment of Nalut University based on the decision of the President of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord No. ___ of 2019, the Language Center at Nalut University was established.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The center director is appointed by a decision from the university president and is treated financially and administratively like the deans of colleges, and he undertakes the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Managing and handling the administrative, financial, and educational affairs of the center, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations and the decisions issued by the center's council.
  • Representation of the center before local and foreign institutions.
  • Invitation for the Scientific Council to meet after determining the agenda items and approving its lecture and the decisions issued by it.
  • Approval of the periodic reports prepared by the administrative and financial affairs, regarding the workflow at the center.
  • Nominating office managers and heads of administrative and scientific departments at the center, and referring them to the university president.
  • Nomination of a legal advisor for the center to review all contracts and agreements entered into by the center, and to complete all legal procedures related to the center, with the appointment decision issued by the university president.
  • Supervising the provision of the center's needs for laboratories, equipment, educational tools, and other necessary requirements.
  • Follow up on the implementation of the university council's decisions regarding the educational and administrative processes at the center,
  • Proposal for the value of tuition fees and service returns.
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to him.


The Scientific Council of the Center

  • Approval of the strategic and training plan for the center
  • Approval of the contract for seminars and conferences in the field of languages and translation
  • Approval of plans, programs, courses, and curricula
  • Proposal to hold conferences, seminars, and scientific workshops
  • Establishing the foundations and regulations for student admission and the study system
  • Approval of proposed curricula and study plans

The council meets once a month during the academic year at the invitation of its president, and the president or a majority of the council members can call for an emergency meeting. Attendance of two-thirds of the council members is required for the meetings to be legal.

  • Invitation for the Board of Directors to convene and preside over its sessions
  • Monitoring the general policies of the centers
  • Monitoring the implementation of the decisions issued by the Scientific Council of the center
  • Presentation of related topics that the center presents to the University Council
  • Performing other tasks assigned to him by the council

Deputy for Scientific Affairs at the Center

  • Formation of scientific committees to study and develop the curricula being taught at the center.
  • Receiving collaboration requests from faculty members, teaching assistants, and collaborators, and following up on the procedures for visitors related to the commencement of their work and their teaching hours at the center.
  • Preparation of annual reports related to scientific and educational affairs at the center in terms of aspects of activity, performance levels, examination matters and their results, the obstacles facing the implementation process, and proposing appropriate solutions for them.
  • Proposal of the language course supervisors.
  • Determining the center's needs for laboratories, equipment, and other facilities.
  • Taking measures to supply the library with the necessary books and references, and subscribing to journals related to the scientific activities of the center.
  • Providing references for students in the library reading room:
  • Exchange of the center's publications with centers, colleges, institutes, and research centers of corresponding scientific institutions locally and abroad.
  • Performing indexing tasks for books and periodicals according to established standards.
  • Providing textbooks and assisting students in benefiting from references and publications.
  • Book lending is subject to the provisions of the laws and regulations pertaining to libraries.
  • Preparation of study plans, course descriptions, vocabulary, references, curricula, and ways to develop them.
  • Distribution of language levels, lectures, and training activities among the professors and teaching assistants in the department
  • Supervising the scientific and administrative affairs in the department in accordance with the applicable laws, regulations, and systems.
  • Maintaining order within the department and taking the initiative to inform the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs about anything that may affect the smooth operation of the department.
  • Dividing and classifying students according to their levels into groups, assigning each group to the specialized instructor, monitoring them in coordination with the registrar, and providing reports about them to the Deputy for Academic Affairs at the center.
  • Preparation of reports at the end of each semester on the progress of the scientific and educational process in the department.
  • Provision and production of educational resources at the center
  • Supervision of laboratories, equipment, and lecture halls.
  • Work on requesting and providing scientific and documentary tapes, slides, and computer discs related to the language specialties at the center.
  • Assisting faculty members at the center in preparing research papers for participation in scientific conferences.
