Active participation of Nalut University in the second meeting of the General Union of Higher Education Employees
As part of the ongoing efforts to ensure employee rights and enhance the university work environment, Mr. Mohamed Issa Zakari, the head of the employees' union at Nalut University, participated in the activities of the second meeting of the General Union of Higher Education and Scientific Research Employees, which was hosted by Omar Al-Mukhtar University yesterday, Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The meeting was attended by the General Secretary of Higher Education and Scientific Research Employees, along with (21) representatives from the unions of Libyan universities and the Libyan Academy, amidst great welcome and interest from the administration of Omar Al-Mukhtar University and its General Secretary.
The discussions during the meeting focused on several key issues that concern the employee segment, most notably:
- Financial Rights: Discussion on the inclusion of financial entitlements (overtime, Saturday allowance, bonuses) within the electronic portal, and follow-up on the procedures related to the accumulated debts from previous years.
- Improving income: Reviewing proposals for salary increases in line with current living conditions, and discussing end-of-service benefits in comparison to other sectors.
- Development and Care: Demanding the approval of financial allocations for training courses (both internal and external), and emphasizing the need to expedite the completion of health insurance procedures for employees in appreciation of their efforts.
- Decision-making: Emphasizing the importance of involving employee representatives in meetings of councils and committees concerned with developing relevant regulations and policies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the attendees agreed on the necessity of serious follow-up to implement these recommendations and refer them to the relevant authorities to ensure their realization in practice. The events also included honoring Professor Salah Al-Din Al-Suwaih, the General Syndicate of Higher Education Employees, and his deputies. Additionally, the university deans were honored, including the dean of our university's employees, in recognition of their ongoing union efforts in serving the higher education employees.
